One unplanned benefit of being away from home without a job (and no television in English yet) is that I have more time to read.  This is something I love doing but honestly have done sporadically at best over the last few years.  It just always seemed hard to find the time to sit down with a good book.  Now, since I’m not working and typically don’t really have anywhere I need to be (most of the time) I find myself reading in my spare minutes when Quinn is napping or in bed for the night.  There’s no lure of bad reality t.v. or constant access to cooking shows to monopolize my free time…so books it is!  I realize that as I continue to get settled in here I will be busy once again but I hope to continue making reading a priority since I truly enjoy it and find it an easy way to continue learning.

I can’t possibly compile a list of all the books I’ve ever read, but I decided I would start keeping track of what I read while over here.  I’m definitely open to any suggestions as well!!  I’m especially interested in reading more non-fiction if anyone has recommendations in that category.

Here’s the list so far:

The Hunting and Gathering by Anna Galvada

Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver

The Diary of Anne Frank the Definitive Edition edited by Otto Frank and Mirjam Pressler (not sure how I made it this far without reading this book, shame!)

Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert (Not totally sure what all the hype was about.  Maybe it’s just me.)

The Blind Side of the Heart by Julia Franck (English translation, originally written in German)

Here’s a new book that I haven’t read yet but it comes highly recommended at my local bookstore. It’s a memoir by a woman from Maine who is relocating her family overseas to China. Might be a relavent pick!

Thanks for the recommendation! That sounds very interesting and so relevant for me right now. I’m a tad behind on my reading and updating my page with what I’ve finished…need to get on that. I’m definitely going to check out your suggestion as soon as I’m ready for another book to read!

ALSO, I so envy your books page because I’ve wanted to add the same to my blog! But my technophobia keeps getting in the way. You’ve inspired me and now I’ll have to get my a** off the couch. I look forward to keeping up with what you’re reading!
